16. Bullying: Advice to Pupils

Unfortunately if you are a victim of bullying you are not alone. Try not to show your fear especially to the bully. NO ONE has the right to make you feel unsafe or unhappy. Here are some things you can do to stop the bullying.

  • Try talking to the person who is bothering you, they may not be aware of their behaviour.
  • Tell an adult you trust (parent, teacher, lunch monitor etc.)
  • Write out what the bully is doing to you, when and where it has happened. Include all incidents with the dates it occurred and any witnesses who may have seen what the bully did.
  • Ask your parents to call your teacher to follow up on the incident(s) you reported.
  • If it is of a very serious nature you can contact the Greater Sudbury Police Service. They provide mediation with students and families to stop bullying.

There are plenty of websites available along with help lines that can help with strategies if you are being bullied or witness bullying:

www.kidshelp.sympatico.ca
www.parentsinfo.sympatico.ca
www.bullying.com
www.ncjrs.org
www.mentalhealth.org
Kids Help Phone 1-800-668-6868
Parents Help Line 1-888-603-9100

If you watch a person being bullied and do nothing to STOP it you are just as much at fault as the bully.
